How to Mount Your LCD TV
So, you bought yourself a new, flat screen Plasma or LCD television. Congratulations. You probably have that perfect wall ready to mount it on in the master bedroom that will quickly become a refuge. There's just a single question remaining - How to wall mount your flat screen TV?
The very first thing you must consider is whether you're planning to hire a pro or do it on your own. If you're uncertain about any of the following information, you are better off to hire someone else to take care of the job. However, if you'd like to dirty your hands and possibly make a few miscalculations or mistakes just to have a sense of achievement, you should certainly keep reading.
After you have set aside a few hours to get this job done and selected the wall, you should then determine if that wall is an exterior or interior wall. Though not the case all the time, interior walls will usually give you fewer difficulties than their exterior counterparts.
Obviously, we are assuming you've previously determined that your Plasma or LCD TV actually can be wall mounted, right? Just in case you have not done this yet, you don't need to stress out. Be aware that although a lot of the flat screen TVs now on the market are wall mountable, there are a few early models that weren't. Make sure you check the box. Do you see the words “VESA Compatible” or something similar to it? If it's there, then you are in luck, and you are able to move on. And, since you've done a little bit of research and selected the right wall bracket for the display, you can go right to the entertaining part - the tools. If you have at least some of the basics in your house, such as a drill, tape measure, and a screw driver, you are doing well. It'll also help you to have a stud finder to be sure you don't try to mount your new TV in just drywall.
When you have a rough idea about where you would like the TV, look for a stud and make some changes to your placement. Don't forget to make sure you're by an electrical outlet or You'll have a unusable screen on the wall. Once you've found studs, go ahead and fasten the wall brackets to the back of the television screen. Take care of this prior to putting the TV mount on the wall so that you know if any adjustments must be made to the ultimate mount placement.
When adjustments are made, make marks the places where anchor bolts need to be installed and drill the holes ahead of time, since they can be hard to start. Also, go ahead and cut space for cabling at the time you put in the anchors and then you can run the cables. Make sure the wall mount is leveled and then sink the anchors. Once the wall mount and TV brackets are secure, ask a friend for a little help to lift the screen on to the wall. You really aren't going to want to try to do this yourself because the televisions tend to get heavy and awkward when being lifted by one person.
Now the best part - kick back with your favorite drink and watch your favorite show on your brand new wall mounted LCD TV.
